The Hope Choice

Comfort. We are told that this is what we want, comfort. Much of what we buy is purchased because we believe that in some way it will afford us greater comfort. We avoid or do certain things because we have been convinced that this action will give us greater comfort. It’s all about the “comfort” level. Because it is all about our comfort level we go to great extremes to avoid that which is uncomfortable. We do this in different ways, always looking for comfort. In our series, “Life’s Healing Choices” (Saddleback Church), these “paths” are lifted up.

The Reality Choice

This Sunday we will begin a new series entitled “Life’s Healing Choices”. God has another plan. God's Word teaches us how to end the game with sin, and recover from our hurts and hang-ups once and for all. God’s Word teaches us how to unplug the “power” that feeds temptation, sin, hurts and hang-ups so that the power isn't getting into it anymore and those moles don't just keep popping back up.

The Healing Model of Jesus

Rick Warren asks the question, “how do you know if you're filled with love for other people”? I suppose one way is to determine if you care about them, if you're thinking about them. If you never think about them you really can't say that you love them, that you care about them.

Home For Christmas

We think about home a lot this time year. We sing songs like “There’s No Place Like Home for the Holidays,” or “I’ll Be Home For Christmas.” For some reading this note the word “home” evokes wonderful memories. Some of you, when you go to be with your extended family over the holidays, can’t wait because every single person around the table is a model of spiritual health and emotional maturity. For some of you that’s true, but for some not so much. Last Christmas I heard of a guy who went “home” to be with his extended family over Christmas and the first thing he did when he got back was to schedule a two-hour therapy session.

A Song of Christmas

Have you ever noticed that all successful people have one thing in common, passion. Every successful person exudes passion. Have you ever noticed that every successful team and corporation has a leadership team that exudes passion. Every church that is living out the Great Commission have leaders that have one thing in common, passion. While many churches of leaders who “believe” it is the church that has passionate leaders that reaches its potential.

Light Into Darkness

So, Advent is here. We lit the first candle last Sunday and are committed to preparing our hearts to celebrate the incarnation, God’s visit to redeem His people. Time to do check the pulse rate of our heart and see how we’re doing with Jesus. How is your walk with our Lord, with the one who loves you so much he died for you so he could spend eternity with Him?

How Can I Be Filled with the Spirit?

So, what’s our focus this Sunday? How to be filled by the Holy Spirit. While every Christian received the Holy Spirit when they accepted Christ not every Christian is filled with the Holy Spirit. Many Christians still live lives of quiet desperation, never experiencing the love, joy, peace, power, hope, sense of purpose that God wants desperately to bless them with. On Sunday we will discover how we block this “infilling” and how we can co-operate with the Spirit’s activity. Some people also say that unless you speak in tongues, you have not been filled with the Holy Spirit. Is this true? Is tongues that “significant” of a gift? Lots to talk about on Sunday. You won’t want to miss it. Who knows, maybe we will all be filled with the Holy Spirit on Sunday. I know I need more of the Holy Spirit evident in me.
