Call to Prayer

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened." Matt. 7:7-8

You may find it repetitious that we keep asking you to pray for every weekly activity but if we don't pray and trust and depend upon God we block the Holy Spirit from doing what God wants done. Let us be faithful in praying with trust in, dependency on, and expectancy of God. He wants to do a great work in and through our church. "His is the Kingdom and the power and the glory".

In our daily devotionals, let us mark this moment in time with heartfelt prayer for:

  • trust in God and for enduring faith during this season of heightened fear, anxiety, and confusion;

  • our government leaders who are daily forced to make difficult and exceptional decisions for us, our communities and our nation;

  • church leaders for patience and wisdom to guide us through this time when we cannot physically gather;

  • the health care workers, many of whom face heightened risk to themselves and their families as a result of their service;

  • the vulnerable, with special prayer for protection for the elderly and the immuno-compromised who are at heightened risk, and for those who face financial hardship as a result of the measures taken and to be taken;

  • complete healing of those already ill with the virus;

  • a quick end to the threat of the virus.

And On Friday

It is impossible to pray from the heart without the Holy Spirit's help.

"In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness.

We do not know what we ought to pray for,

but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us through wordless groans." Rom. 8:26

  • Pray that every member of our church will seize the opportunities God provides today to sow the seed of the Gospel in the lives of others.

  • Pray for Henk and Irene Wolthaus who are reaching out to immigrant families and foreign students in Ottawa.

  • From Love Ottawa: Pray for street-engaged youth in the Ottawa region, who have had to leave home but have no secure place to go. Ask God to heal traumas in their lives. Ask God to place people around them who will love them and help steer them towards growth, healing and security.

  • Pray for God's peace to guard and protect homeless people in shelters, streets and parks. Pray for those with mental illness to receive treatment and support. Ask God to break cycles of addictions, setting people free and enabling them to begin new paths.

  • Among those who regularly visit our shelters and drop-ins, pray for a wave of new revelation of Christ, and people putting their hope in him. Pray for volunteers and staff to be divinely prepared to be in the right place at the right time to minister and follow up.

And On Saturday

When the Spirit of God is working, He always guides people to more prayer

by revealing to us our weakness and constant need for His help.

But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness."

"Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses,

so that Christ's power may rest on me." 2 Cor. 12:9

  • Pray that every member of our church will seize the opportunities God provides today to sow the seed of the Gospel in the lives of family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues.

  • Pray that everyone who views the worship service tomorrow will worship God with all their heart, mind, soul, and strength and that their/our lives will be more transformed by the Holy Spirit so that we can be more effective in our witness for Christ.

And On Sunday

Where the Spirit of God is working, the Word of God will be greatly honoured.

"To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,

and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly

to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains,

that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak." Ephesians 6:18-20

And on Tuesday

The Spirit does not want us to bear burdens but give them to God in prayer.

  • Pray for the Junior and Senior Youth groups that each young person and the leaders will grow as disciples of Jesus.

And on Wednesday

To have an effective prayer life, a person or church must not be grieving the Spirit

by sinful thoughts or behaviour or quenching the Spirit via unbelief.

"And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.

With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord's people." Ephesians 6:18

because God's love has been poured out into our hearts

through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us." Rom. 5:5

"We always pray for you, and we give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
